Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons. Jeremiah 10:22
Jeremiah chapter 10 talks about a “brutish” people who will be desolated by the bruit. These words used in the King James Version speak about a people who are “dull-hearted” and will be destroyed by their behavior. Their desire for self-centered satisfaction is what makes them brutish. This word can also mean stupid. A stupid person in the scripture is not a person with low intelligence, or lack of knowledge, it is a person blinded by their own desires and unable to make an intelligent or well-informed decision because of it. So stupidity is an issue of the heart!
What is the Condition of Your Heart?
In Ephesians 4:17-18, we are told to “no longer walk like the gentiles,” who live in the vain lifestyle of their own minds. The world makes decisions based upon human understanding apart from God. They believe we are part of the animal kingdom; only different in the fact that we have a bigger brain and hence have better reasoning skills. The Bible teaches us we have a human spirit, or God breath, that can make us live on a higher plane. The scripture also teaches that we are a living being, been made alive by the breath of God. As human beings, we are not motivated by instinct like animals; we are made in the image of God and have an inner core to our being called the heart. The heart is the center of who we are. This is an important understanding when we come to the decision-making process of life. We must understand the heart can blind us, or the heart can open our eyes to see the realm of God. In this realm, we also have capacity to reason beyond just our mental processes. Mankind without God is one step higher than the animals, but with God we can be one step higher than that. It is only in this realm that we can truly co-operate with the purposes of God. A dull-hearted person cannot see the destruction their choices will make and will be powerless to understand the true nature of life.
Will you Rise to His Capacity for Your Life?
The world in which we live is reminiscent of the time preceding the great depression of the 1930’s. During what was called the “roaring twenties,” the world became stupefied by affluence and desire to separate from the Word of God. Being stupefied, many philosophies took root such as Nazism and Communism. They were just insignificant roots until the crisis of the Great Depression took hold…and what happened next is history. The rise of these dangerous philosophies literally caused the death of 100’s of millions of people. We think we live in a dangerous world now, but I believe much worse is possible if we do not examine our ways and turn to God.
The world economy is in very fragile condition. What will happen if we have another crisis like the great depression again? It seems much more possible since we have amassed so much debt and printed trillions of dollars of new money in recent years. Was it wisdom that guided us out of the economic collapse of 2008-09? Did the so-called experts learn enough from the last depression to save us from another? I believe we have only borrowed time with our borrowed money and we must prepare for the next crisis. I am here to declare, we will not prepare ourselves through storing food and guns, we can only prepare ourselves by giving our hearts to God. Join me in asking the Lord to reveal your heart that you would be prepared with the wisdom to rise above the foolishness of men!
“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. “As a partridge that broods but does not hatch, So is he who gets riches, but not by right; It will leave him in the midst of his days, And at his end he will be a fool.”> Jeremiah 17:9-11
