Will you take the time to understand biblical truth?

In these days of intense debate on same sex marriage, I believe it is imperative that Christians understand the biblical point-of-view. Romans chapter one teaches in detail regarding the concept of same-sex behavior.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil- mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32 NKJV)

Many Christians warn of God’s impending judgment on America because of our turn in our moral behavior. The scripture actually tells us that the turn in our behavior is because of God’s judgment. The Word says because you did not retain God in your knowledge He will turn you over to reprobate behavior; men with men, women with women, doing what is unnatural. This is an interesting reference for us to consider so we can walk in truth.

It seems like the tide is against us!
Many of the most prestigious colleges, like Harvard and Yale, were started by Christians to promote the training of Christian ministers and to provide a well-educated Christian society. Now these schools (and many others like them) are on the forefront of being anti-Christian, promoting anti-biblical morality. School prayer was declared unconstitutional in the 1960’s, but more insidious is the secularization that has removed God from holidays and even the training in arts and music. This secularization comes despite the fact that Christian influence has been pervasive in our history. It requires a deliberate choice and effort to expunge us from our religious past.

We need to know these efforts are actually the root of our problem!

Dealing with immorality will be a difficult war to win. Human goodness is not the result of human effort, but the result of a people in relationship with a “good God.” The story of man from the beginning is that we need God. Without Him, we will degenerate into lawless people. As Christians, we must understand our goodness is not just the grace to be forgiven of sin, but fellowship with God provides the strength and power to live a moral life.

Even though it seems like the tide is against us, our solution is fellowship with God!

The battle for humanity is spiritual and natural!
The aforementioned reference in Romans tells us that these behaviors are the result of God’s judgment, but we need to understand that this scripture also tells us God will judge the behavior. The root of the problem is the rejection of God, resulting in behavior that is ungodly. This behavior is against God and His natural order. We are admonished by the Word to recognize the problem as a spiritual; one that produces natural consequences. After all, the solution is spiritual and not just natural!

This understanding should make us non-judgmental, but at the same time discerning and careful in how we relate to the world. We should love all people but recognize we cannot accept all behavior. This would also mean we should not participate in these things. This is why true religious liberty must protect our liberty to choose not to participate in ungodly behavior. Of course this is not just a sexual issue, we must be very careful in the debate of the times not to be caught up in the animosity so prevalent in our modern world.

Be Bold, Be Courageous and Let’s Stand!
I am asking you to ponder how you are living and the principles by which you guide your choices. Are you approving of the changes being pushed by popular culture or are you concerned about the deterioration of our moral underpinnings? As Christians, our struggle with these things will not bring us under judgment, but under God’s Grace. However, our acceptance of their system will bring us into the same judgment as the world! Let’s stand bold. Let’s stand for the kingdom!
